Presenting the ReMix Memphis Sound Library
In order to make a greater variety of Memphis sounds available to the general public, and Pink Palace museum-goers in particular, ReMix Memphis has posted a collection of basic field recordings. The sounds heard in this playlist include most of those offered to artists featured on Producer Tracks @ 3.0 — the raw materials with which they worked when crafting their sonic visions of the city.
Also included in this playlist is a newly mixed sound collage, “A Walk Through the Sound,” that recreates an imaginary ride and stroll through town using nearly all of the sounds in the sound library.
Visitors to the Pink Palace’s Making Memphis: 200 Years of Community bicentennial exhibit can now hear a sampling of all of the above when they visit the ReMix Memphis ‘video game’ console. Donning headphones allows listeners to enter another world, imagining the city life pulsing outside the exhibit’s walls. Once they’ve focused on the sounds of the city, they can fill out a response card, completing the phrase, “The Sound of _____ is so Memphis.”
